Onboarding at Yellowstone Local and Onboarding Procedure Templates

Onboarding at Yellowstone Local is a key part of our commitment to employee success. We understand that it takes time to acclimate to a new environment, and we don't expect immediate mastery from day one.

We recommend dedicating the first two weeks to comprehensive onboarding, followed by more role-specific training starting in the third week. During the initial period, new team members are encouraged to engage with their teams, but without the pressure of significant contributions.

The entire onboarding process is outlined in our Onboarding Procedure Template, managed by the People Connect Team. This process is designed to be self-guided and self-paced, with an emphasis on asynchronous learning, adapting to our company culture and work practices.

At Yellowstone Local, we believe in using our own services and tools for onboarding, hence all tasks are tracked in a specialized system. New team members will receive a detailed explanation of this system upon joining.

The team member responsible for your onboarding will set up your onboarding plan at least 4 days before your start date. This plan includes tasks common to all Yellowstone Local employees, with a 30-day completion timeline, and additional role or department-specific tasks. If you need help with any task, reach out to your onboarding buddy or colleagues.

During onboarding, you will gain access to essential tools and resources. If your role has a pre-made access template, an Access Request will be raised on your second day, overseen by our IT team. For any queries regarding access, the #it-help channel in Slack is your go-to.

Please note, on certain holidays or designated company days off, the People Connect Team may not be available. These dates are pre-informed in the People Connect team availability calendar.

Agenda

  1. Day 1: Introduction to the onboarding process.
  2. Emphasis on self-paced learning and query resolution.
  3. Slack Channel Support: New team members are added to various Slack channels for support and community engagement. These include #new_team_members, #people-connect, #diversity_inclusion_and_belonging, #it_help, among others.

Managers of New Team Members

Managers play a crucial role in the onboarding process. An onboarding plan is created for each new team member, with tasks for managers, People Connect, and IT Ops to complete before the start date. For assistance, use the #people-connect channel in Slack.

Compliance

A Senior People Connect Specialist conducts monthly audits of onboarding plans. Compliance in security, payroll, and other company policies is crucial. Any pending tasks will be followed up by the People Connect Specialist, who is also responsible for closing completed onboarding plans. Plans left open for more than 60 days are closed automatically.

Completing Onboarding

To successfully complete onboarding, all tasks in the onboarding plan must be checked off, indicating completion or non-applicability.
